CPW acknowledged the problem, and the patch notes for Iron Chests note "
3. Changed to use the internal ItemRenderer. Should be a lot more reliable now."

Either way, yes, the crystal chests still give many people's computers fits. It's a lot to ask to render all those rotating stacks of items.

No worries. My mind was stuck in the conversation about the crystal chests.

I agree, I've not yet seen any reports of lag from this. I also haven't seen any on my server, but we have a very small population, so it's not really indicative.

Mindcrack may end up with this mod. It has config files for it (which don't give many options), but not the mod. We will consider it for our server but does it offer anything other than a place to put things and more entities to track in a chunk? (I haven't had the time to check the link yet).

No, it's purely display case style stuff. Display stands, shelves, book cases, and a label that can be placed directly on chests

I think what he was meaning is does it add anything in terms of gameplay and "must have" features, or is it just another mod that adds more things to create more items to render and thus more lag....


I agree it looks very cool, and I've been wanting to be able to have display shelves and things like that for ages - however we need to remember that our ftb server is already consuming vast amounts of bandwidth and CPU usage and has constant problems with lag....

I really think that adding additional mods that don't offer anything really important, is just adding to our problems for only cosmetic benefits.

That's exactly how I feel about the mo creatures mod.
Don't get me wrong it adds some awesome stuff, but it breaks so much in the game and creates so many entities that I would rather have it gone and have a more stable server.
There must be a reason it does not come with any of the ftb packs.
