I've been gone from AO for a few weeks, with the new addiction, I keep meaning to give myself time to log in a play some, but I get so rapped up in DAZ 3D, it's like past my bed time at times.

I should get back there, I have a new mouse now, not a great one, but no more double clicking or every time my arrow goes over someone it's starts a trade . I wanted a corded mouse I'm tired of replacing battery's in mid game, but the store only had wireless , and spending more $ on fuel the the price of the mouse really was not an option I wanted to do, so I settled with what I got.

Thumbs down

Hey guys, I was in AO yesterday, helping Woo out with a HI raid, apparently her and a couple of members of RK Shadows/Spirit Walkers alliance have been getting together and doing some things like that so I thought I'd activate again so I can come and help every now and then.

Eve Online has been consuming my time lately. Haven't had much to do with the TOGgers in there though. When I applied to join TOGE they were in the middle of a war dec, so i wasn't allowed to join their main corp. Instead I was bundled into some temporary corp where nobody was ever online or talked (and i was being charged taxes for every mission i did). Then after a week the war finally ended and a global message was sent round.. I was told I had to re-apply, and by that i mean I had to put in my forum nick and a special password again, which was strange i thought because they already knew who i was, i had already applied. so eventually after another 24hour wait i was let back in, and it's the same as the other corp! hardly anyone ever in chat, and nobody ever answers anything anyone says when they are on. I'm the noob and I'm finding myself answering questions for other noobs because nobody will answer them.

... in fact further to that, I have joined Star Trek Online, Fallen Earth, and now Eve online mainly to get to know other TOGgers and try to make some new friends online, and each time there has been basically no conversation or interaction of any kind. I may has well have been on my own. In fact, in Eve I would be better off on my own, because i wouldnt be charged taxes! I'm too shy for Teamspeak, so if everyone is on there I guess I'm out of luck. The only place I've really made any friends has been you 2 guys in Anarchy Online. And we recruited a LOT of ppl into our AO org, gave everyone heaps of stuff and tried to be as nice as possible, but they all just disappeared without so much as a goodbye.

All I ever hoped for joining TOG was to meet some older people online that I could chat with and maybe try out a few different games together. Ideally a group of friends that moved from one thing to another but kept in touch and did things together would have been fantastic. Steam is a great place to stay in touch if you are into different games. If anyone wants to get connected in there let me know your nickname and I'll find you. You can find me with my email I think, easier than with nick. (budwickb@hotmail.com) I'll have to double check that when i get a chance (different computer).

I just wanted to further expand on that last post in regards to the whole teamspeak/ventrillo/voicechat thing... I have read in here that most players (in Eve at least) hang out on the voicechat things, and don't really use text chat any more. Well I have Aspergers Syndrome, and I find communicating in voicechat extremely difficult. The phone is like my most hated device in the house, and i can't even talk to my family on it because i hate it so much. It's because of the Aspergers combined with the phobia I developed after receiving many abusive phone calls years ago.
So basically it's text chat for me or nothing. But I type really fast (around 80wpm when on a roll), and have no prob keeping up with convos.
But I have to wonder, is there a place for me in TOG? If players aren't watching text-chat, how can I be heard?
I have been wanting to say this for a while, and I guess the AO thread isn't really the right place to post it, but TBH I'm not sure where else to post it.

Hey Cap,
Yes in Eve, Voice chat is used exclusively. I was in EVE where I met TOG and Joined TOG. But at that time, I had a good connection till I sold my home, and have yet to ever have that good connection, So I actually stay away from Voice chat.

I still run Voice chat (if it's something needed) but with No mic. Every Game I've played, and was in a TOG Guild/group I find after a while they all disappear, But every once in a while I'll meet up again but in another game.

Oh and maybe you knew, but AO used to have it's own Div, Three years ago, the section was brought out of Archives, but that didn't last long and was placed back into the Archives.
I joined TOG for pretty much the same reason you did, but before TOG there were also other similar groups I had joined but much smaller, very very much smaller. Was going through the same thing in those as well, But TOG be larger, I can get more information about the different games and stay with the Hype if I want to (my case is when I can afford to).
Back when I joined TOG in EVE, it was not as bad like your experience, But I also didn't have the same disorder as you do, there were times I got on Voice Chat there even tho I wasn't playing EVE . Till the Move.
Ever since my Misfortunes that followed after selling my home, I actually avoid voice, and large groups. Now I just keep in contact with other TOG'gers through the forums. I find the TOG forums has a lot of good resource, though at times it is one sided, and not the Un-bias info I seek.

I guess you could voice your feelings in The Lounge Room

Simply put, voice comms is for the most part convenience only. Even with AS I assume listening in on voice chat isn't an issue? We have many players in many games that simply listen in but only actually 'chat' via text. You've mentioned that chatting via voice comms is not really an option for you. That's fine but you must also be aware of the issues associated with this. Should everyone else stop using voice chat just for you?

Alot also depends on the game. The advantage of voice chat is you can chat together without actually being in a party, etc. Many players simply use voice chat for socialising and may not even be logged in. Using text chat only, means you will never get to communicate with these players.

Bottom line, voice comms is for the most part optional. It is up to the individual player whether to use it or not. If you consider both the advanatges and dissadvantages, the choice is really up to you.

Speaking personally, I don't like using text chat and prefer to speak over voice. Even though this is my preference, I'll still chat via text if necessary and certainly wouldn't tell anyone what they can or cannot do.

Of course I would not suggest that anyone stop using voice-chat just for me :P I don't know why you would say that. I hadn't thought of listening in though, I suppose I could try it. Part of my AS is the difficulty in filtering out background noises. If everyone was speaking at once I would find it next to impossible to follow what's going on. I don't know if voice-chat is like that. I guess i would just have to try it and find out. So thanks for that suggestion.

As for the forums, I find them a bit overwhelming, there are so many topics. I am comfortable in this thread though, it's like our own little mini-group. Probably nobody reads it but us though lol. I am always very cautious posting in any forums anywhere, because the trolls are always there waiting to flame anything anyone says. I know these forums aren't like that though, I guess i'm just afraid i'll say something dumb and embarrass myself :P

Anyways, I have digressed enough, back to AO or they'll shut us down >_>

If you feel like having a run in AO and want some company Imfir let me know. I'll tell woo that if she sees you on to yell out, I wanted to have a chat to you about DAZ as well whenever you are free.

LOl I was supposed to get on not long after I posted that reply last, but I went back to the DAZ forum, for one last check before going to AO, then I saw a reply in a post I was interested in, and had to see if it worked, because it'll solve a lot of issues I was having, and it did, and I was entrenched and totally back glued doing new things in DAZ, that again I forgot to allow me time to log in before bed time.
But I got most of that outta my system, I will log in tonight , going to get today's DAZ done now
thought up . . . well actually dreamed, up something I want to try

Hey Captainzero. I don't play those games, but I just wanted to pop in and support you and your quest to find a solid group to play with. TOG is a fantastic group of people, but as you have experienced, there are still difficulties with finding the right tight knit group.

The fact you are sharing such personal issues and phobias that you have is commendable and your concerns are totally legitimate. I personally use voice chat a lot, but I could definitely do a better job monitoring the chat box to support people that don't have access to voice or have issues with using voice.

Like I said, I don't play AO or Eve anymore, but I wanted you to personally know that you have a place with TOG, no matter what issues you are dealing with. I wish you the very best of luck in finding a core group of players that you can become comfortable with in many games.

wow I guess some people DO read this forum after all

Thanks for making my Day .. erm.. Dday A little understanding goes a long way. I would play a game i didnt even like just to have people like you to hang with.

You know, you kind of hit the nail on the head there with the 'tight-knit' thing. Yes TOG are a wonderful group of people, but they seem to be split up into smaller groups that are tight-knit and a little bit harder to get into. I have felt a little bit like an outsider in each game i've tried. Maybe I make it that way, I don't know. My social skills aren't fantastic.

I actually tried voice-chat on eve last night. I switched it on and was immediately met with about a dozen voices talking at once, all wanting to know who i was and what i was doing there lol. it was crazy! BUT they were very nice, friendly people who made a lot of jokes and had a lot of laughs. I so very much wanted to get involved in that, but i felt that even if i had hooked up a microphone i would have been too embarrassed to say anything lol.. I'm hopeless.

So, as expected it was overwhelming, too many chat rooms, too many ppl all talking at once. but they were nice ppl, and I won't give up on VC just yet. It might take me a few days but i'll try to gather the confidence for another go, maybe with a mic next time.

Glad to hear you gave it a go Captainzero. Maybe a little voice chat at a time will help. If not, don't put too much pressure on yourself to be there. You are here to enjoy yourself and game, not create anxiety.

Hope to see you in future games I play! I am out of the MMO world for a bit, but will be back into it with GW2 and SWTOR. Playing a little Dragon Nest at the moment casually, but spending most of my time in Deus Ex on the PS3.
