Default Alien Swarm

Alien Swarm started out as a mod for the FPS title Unreal Tournamnet 2004 but not as an FPS! This Alien Swarm mod is an overhead view tactical squad-based shooter. This game was the first non-FPS/sim game I played that I liked.

It's about to become it's own dedicated game and it deserves it in my opinion!

Alien Swarm: Infested is an upcoming action strategy game featuring a unique blend of co-op play and squad level tactics all in an overhead view. As a Commander in the Interstellar Armed Forces, your job is to guide your squad and successfully complete their mission against the ravages of the Swarm infestation, a threat which plagues mankind across the breadth of colonized space.

It's been on Steam as a mod for a long time now (prior to the latest news update on their site, which was in 2007). I remember the devs complaining back in the day, because it wasn't meant to be listed as a mod, but as a stand alone game using the source engine.

I, like you Ned, was a massive fan of the original Alien Swarm mod and was quivering in excited antipication when they announced that they were working on the sequel, Infested.

The project has well and truly stalled though. It's amazing, if you look at the Black Cat forums, that people are still actually posting there, patiently waiting.

15 months with no word from the developers = dead game in my books. They were looking to be so close to getting something out too. It all looked so promising. Makes me cry even now, thinking back on what could have been... :'(

Two years ago Valve hired the talented team behind the popular top down co-op mod Alien Swarm.

...

we never forgot about Alien Swarm and the team has spent a lot of time bringing the game to Source in between their contributions to the other Valve projects.

On Monday, July 19th Alien Swarm is going to be released for free via Steam.

18 hours to go.
