Cool

"Along time ago in a galaxy far, far away..."

First off, great article - actually made me wonder what would happened if I tried to re-activate my accounts (on Corbantis). Alas, I've moved on too much since SWG to want to go back, especially reading how how it has changed even more since the Jump to Lightspeed expansion. It was a long time ago, and the SWG I loved is no more. I left just before the "New Gaming Experience" was coming to fruition, one of my friends stayed behind, and he was sorry for it - after this great grind to become a Jedi (which is, after all what we all wanted, right? hah).

Anyhow, great read! Thanks.

Ahhh SWG, the memories, good article. No doubt the current incarnation of SWG was influenced by EQ2 but I think WoW had a big influence on it too. Especially when they saw how well WoW was doing. Unfortunately what worked well for WoW didn't work well for SWG.

Well I never played SWG before, but I gave it a go. First off, when SWG came out, I had dropped MMOs at that point due to bad experiences in The Realm. Now my firends who did play SWG were like zealots and tryed to get me to play. Of course their enthusiasm changed to bitterness and hatred as time went on.

My take on the game is that well... I keep hearing Yoda say 'oooooohh... Jediiiii' in my head. Sure the graphics are dated, but I am actually having fun playing it. I did get to see two lvl 90's fight (a Jedi and a Sith) and it looked pretty cool to watch. If nothing else, I have to say that they did a good job on the choreography. (The Sith won.)

Anyway, I will probably play it for a month anyway and see how it wears on me. I guess maybe I am lucky in that I didn't play it in the early days.

I absolutely love the idea of a Gungan encased in Carbonite hanging on the wall of my house.

Where can I get one?

My take is that this was already a crappy game as just a game and when you factor in that it's also an MMO, which is, in many ways, mostly a half-game at best, well sir, then you have quite a fugly mess.

This is of course, my opinion, but it's an opinion that seems to be backed up by nearly every credible review site and reviewer out there. However, it IS a fantastic setting and I know a lot of gamers are excited by Bioware's forthcoming Star Wars MMO so there's hope that a good Star Wars MMO may someday be available.

I think that Bioware creating a Star Wars MMO is still conjecture. Bioware hasn't stated that they are actually working on it, just that they are working on an MMO. Sure, a lot of the people that worked on SWG went to work for Bio, but that doesn't mean that is what they are working on. Now, I would be glad if they did do a Star Wars MMO and I certainly would play it.

Actually it's been mentioned by more than a few game journalists (some I know from my side-job) that they've all but admitted it openly - you can bet on it, SW MMO from BioWare.

As a sidenote, great review here...good job despite my negative perception of the game being reviewed.
