Perhaps this is just the settings on my computer...but would it be possible to show more than 3 threads at a time in this forum please? There are so many articles being published every week that the threads get a bit lost unless you either put in 'show threads for last 2 weeks' or go back to the home page and go in through the actual article. And since I find the discussions about the thread just as interesting, oft times, as the thread I like to see if someone has contributed something new to the discussion.
I've also noticed that while the articles are well read by the TOG community, there isn't always a lot of discussion that occurs about the article. I, personally, love that the discussions sometimes go off on a tangent (lol, I'm frequently the culprit) and I think it's a shame that this seems to be discouraged. The discussion threads aren't so well used that this would really clutter them up. And the discussions are almost always interesting...even if they are a *little bit* off topic. I feel that the purpose of these articles is to stimulate such interaction/discussions...so why stifle them? That said, I'm not really worried either way, and I will try to be good (*wink*) and stay on topic. Third suggestion is that the articles seem to be coming in thick and fast. But they are just plonked on the front page. Is there any way to archive them or store them into areas so that people can access them more easily at a later date, whether that be a week or a month later. For example, the TOG interviews are scattered all over the place. Wouldn't new members be interested in these perhaps? How about linking all these...."If you liked this article try x" or maybe an area where new members can find all of these threads plus the 'show yourself', 'what you do' type threads in one place. Sort of the introduction to TOG place.... For the game specific ones, such as GW, create a link in that forum (we 'sort of' have that for GW) with all the relevent articles so people don't have to go fishing for them, an excercise in patience! Anyway, just suggestions. Love the work you journalists do. Keep it up! Thanks. Snagrom |

Hi Snagrom!
The amount of threads shown is dependent upon your personal set up of the forums within your control panel. If you go to User CP and then to Edit Options, under Thread Display Options you will find the default setting for this. My guess is that you may have it set to “Show threads from last day”. I would suggest changing that to “Show all threads”. Or, just remember to use the manual option for this located at the bottom of the forum when you visit the Frontpage news forum. There is only one thread that I am aware of that people were asked to stay on topic. That was done as the thread in question was at a point of maybe becoming a pissing match. It was decided to head it off right away and not wait to see how it developed. There is plenty of room for discussion and going slightly off topic, that is not an issue. However when someone is trying to steer another in a direction that is completely non topic related and opens the door for it to be a heated debate, then a cool down request will be made. Father is working with a new version of the software for the front page. Once he has had a chance to play with that and see what is capable of doing for us, we will implement a archive. There will be more information on this, once it is in place.

Sounds good. Thanks for that RogueSlayer. I'll try the user cp thing too. =)
(Yep the user cp thing worked a treat...but I had it on the forum default mode so I still think it's something unique to this forum as it's the only place I've had this problem). Last edited by Snagrom; 9th June 2006 at 08:12 AM. |

The discussion link Discuss this article leads to a "Not Found" error.

Are you using the link via the post above or, the actual “Discuss this article” link at the bottom of the G&H Contest Winners article?
The link above will not work but the link in the actual article has been fixed.

Just as a question - who is the main contact here for getting stories up?
There is a submission page - but not a contact page for the site. The reason I asked is I emailed the community manager for Tabula Rasa (a MMORPG in development and nearing Beta) to suggest this might be a site they would like to release information on. Her response was "Absolutely – totally interested. Just our kind of gamer Do you have a main contact for them? I would love to get them involved early. I didn’t find a contact page on the site"So can the appropriate person from here please contact cuppajo at ncsoft.com or contact me so I can forward the details on (Note: I am quite happy to not be the middleman, now that I have brought it to their attention and they are interested) As a side note - since one company is quite happy to do something - maybe other members that a following different games could contact the community managers for those games and raise the profile of this site a bit by getting some articles released here. As another aside - hey great work on the articles. |
