It really depends on the type of article. There are some newsbite type articles which could be cycled fairly quickly, whilst others could probably remain longer.
Personally, I became fairly discouraged after how quickly my tech articles disappeared to the depths. They take a fair bit of time to put together only to become relatively obscure within a few days.

I can sympathize with you Wongdai. I'm sure all of your journalists put in a lot of effort on your articles. I know that Guild Wars sort of has an archiving thing going but why not have only the most recent (i.e. 2-4 week old) articles showing. This would maybe give you enough space to have little icons (similar to those we have for the forums) for a couple of different categories, e.g. Technical, Member profile, Specific game (or FPS, MMORPG based ones), and so on. In this way people could find older articles that interest them rather than having to scroll down the page for forever and a day.
Having said all that...I'm not a site engineer and don't have to do the work, so I fully understand why this will probably never happen! =) |

hey as many as ya see fit to print...are these all written by TOG journalists or news from the gaming world at large? I enjoy the ones written by our guys alot. If we had a way to or a page with industry type news , whats going on in the world of gaming that would be cool to or maybe just apage with links?.but that requires someone to do the work. i just enjoy reading about games in general.Maybe go towards an online magazine? now im asking too much!

Everything is indeed written by TOG members. Quote:
I am not sure if this fits in with what you are saying here, but would press releases intrest you? I have access to many, many press releases and other such items from the games industry each day. I have yet to post these on their own as it leaves a bit of an impersonal taste in my mouth. However, it could be done in such a way that they are not on the main page itself, but accesible via a link from the main page. Food for thought. Quote:
That is really not much to ask at all. You may even be closer to the goal than you know. While I am here, I will say that we are working on things to try and bring more articles to you. Yes as always, by TOG members. We have been a bit lax in this the past few months but are working to get around that now.

I normally always check out the news page for new articles, if it's from a game that doesn't interest me I normally will have a quick glance through but of course we all have different tastes. Sometimes I have read an article two or three times to take everything in and with the Quality I have seen so far from the TOG journo's, it's a joy to read something that's well laid out.

Although I troll the general forum's infrequently, any news/articles that interest me I examine.
This allows me to examine what is out there and in saying that, there is a lass that has been scripting stories about EQ2 that I and others are enjoying greatly. A link to one is here http://www.theoldergamers.com/forum/...art-seven.html Things like this should be posted I think. (Just my 2 cents worth!)

I love TOG as (to me anyway), its a laid back, casual community with a common interest (umm, alcohol?). I would much rather have the more infrequent but high quality, personal articles that are currently supplied, than more frequent lesser quality ones. I really enjoy all that is written re games by TOGgers as I feel I can trust what they say.

I shall opt out from the poll. But I do enjoy the articles, though it can be a pain to get them written right!
