Lol, good article .... I reckon World of Warcraft has taught my 11yr old daughter a lot about finance as well..... though she still has somewhat idiosyncratic ideas about what things should sell for. Plus its good for practical maths too ..... x number of murlocs killed divide by x drop rate and times by x vendor price = ohh cute hat thingy.

cute hat thingy? rofl!
Nice article Superluminal =). I too found the auction house daunting. My patience never lasted long enough for me to reap in the dough. My items were always low-priced as having to relist them time and again was just plain annoying. Having said that...I miss the economics side of things now that I play Guild Wars. |

Auctioneer isn't cheating, it's time saving. If you went through and made notes on everything manually you would get similar (less accurate) results. Of course, sellers can mess with auctioneer by putting up overinflated prices on their goods meaning you will get false readings. That's where knowing what things are worth comes in handy.
Stick with items that you know or materials that don't have a deposit price. A lot of armor/weapons have crazy deposits and if it doesn't sell your profit is going down the tubes. Once I disovered the Auction House an entire new game opened up to me. I spent all my time buying and reselling for profit. There is nothing like the feeling of making 10000% profit on an item By level 40 I had blue everything (no point getting purple) at all my previous levels, a mount and about 400g left over.NB: if you want to get into AH, stick with horde servers. Less people seem to play them so it doesn't take forever to scan the auctions. |
