Actually there is some information in this article that is incorrect. There are TOE cards for all sorts of OSs. I used to run them on a number of Windows 2000 servers years ago and I believe I also had them on a few NT 4.
Because Windows 2000 Professional (the desktop OS) and Server are vitually identical at the core, if someone has written a driver for Server they probably wrote it for Professional as well. That's why you'll often see an OS listed as "Windows 2000" but not specify Pro or Server. So you should be able to get a TOE card for your Win2k desktop. Theres got to be cards by at least some companies that have drivers for XP too. As you pointed out though, there's really not that much of a need for it in gaming. ![]()

According to Red Hat, when TOE was released, the reason they will not implement TOE is because the linux TCP/IP stack is already highly optimised and so TOE would offer no performance advantage to a linux box.
