Greetings True Believers!
As a comic book fan as a kid, (and with a recent return to comic reading) the influx of Super Hero based games is certainly making some of my childhood dreams a reality.
Super Hero games of the past have mostly been ... well ... crap, but the soon to be released tiles are promising this is all about to change.
One title that looks promising is Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 Official Game Site
Based on the "Civil War" story arc written by Marc Miller, with plenty of well known playable characters (Spiderman, Iron Man, Captain America, Wolverine, Deadpool ... just to mention a few

), and a focus on how combining various characters together to see how their powers compliment, this game is set to surpass the first Marvel Ultimate Alliance in many ways.
How they play on the Civil War story arc is what I am eager to see. For those non comic book readers out there a bit of back story;
The Civil War marked a huge turning point for the Marvel Universe. Without going into to much detail;
Due to the actions of a band of would be "reality tv heroes" that caused the death of many innocent civilians (including a school full of children), the American Government was forced / coerced into passing a law that required all super powered beings to be registered. On top of this, if a hero wanted to be active, s/he had to become a member of a government team. If not, that super being would be arrested and detained.
This in turn created a huge rift in the super hero community. Those that did not agree with the new law, (led by Captain America) saw this as an infringement on their civil rights and feared that they would be used as government enforcers used for political purposes instead of for the good of the people, went under ground.
Those that agreed with the new policy (led by Iron Man) saw the new law as a way to protect the populous as well as give the super hero community proper training, support and accountability.
War between the two factions broke out as the pro-new law heroes were charged with hunting down and detaining the anti-new law heroes. This of course led to some very large and bloody battles causing the end of many friendships, the end of organizations such as S.H.I.E.L.D and the Avengers and even the death of many characters (good and bad).
The effects of the civil war is still felt today in the Marvel Universe as while many heroes are still on the run, a former master villain has convinced the governement that he is the answer to all their security needs, and is secretly trying to take control of ... well ... everything.
If you get the chance this
book is a great read and contains some outstanding artwork.
So who is looking at getting this title ... and if so, Who's side will you be on?
In Australia, if you pre-order it at
EB Games (and GameStop in the US I believe) you get
Juggernaut as a bonus playable character.
If you pre-order it at
JBHI FI you get Thor as a playable character.
Excelsior!
