I've got Eye of Judgment. I like it a lot and have put quite a few hours into playing it. The game itself is fun, has a lot of depth in its strategy and can be very addictive.
It's not without issues though:
- Lighting conditions have to be right.
Make sure your playing area is well-lit. Make sure the cards aren't reflecting light directly into the camera. Play with the in-game camera settings. The camera card detection can work very well, but it is dependent on a good environment.
- Booster cards are difficult to get.
Ebay is your friend here, but even on ebay cards aren't as easy to find as they used to be. Set 3 cards are especially hard to find.
Brick and mortar stores haven't sold cards for ages, and even specialty card stores have given up on them (at least in Australia).
- Set-up is a barrier to playing
For a while I just left my EoJ mat and camera out and set-up in front of the TV, but when I moved on to a different game I put everything away and haven't touched it since. (Actually I did get it out once when Sony added trophies.)
- Online opponents are tough
Especially at this stage in the game's life - the only players left are the die-hard fans who hunt down the individual cards necessary to create the perfect deck. I've got quite a few cards and (I thought) a pretty decent deck. But I still lose 9/10 games online.
Strategy and luck matters too, of course - even great decks won't win 100% of games, but they do help. Getting together a decent deck can be expensive though.
I always thought playing with a friend would be preferrable, since at least then you can still have a laugh while you lose. But I never knew anyone else with a copy.
