Imported Games
Have noticed a few people discussing the purchase of PS3 games from overseas.
So thought I would just point out a few things which people are probably aware of but wanted to ensure they were: Pro's PS3 games are region free (able to be played in all countries) PS3 games purchased from overseas can be cheaper PS3 games may release earlier overseas then Australia Con's Patches for PS3 games purchased from overseas can be problematic if Aus patch applied to a US version of the game. PS3 patches if released overseas may not be available in Australia especially if the game has not released in Australia. PS3 games purchased from overseas may not connect to Australian game playing servers (think lag) Solution's Some of the issues above might be overcome if connected to US PSN using a dummy account. Some of the issues above could be ignored if you just want to play the single player option of the game without patching and not realy interested in online gaming. Hope this helps with the choice you make. Remember, shop around, not all stores in Australia are selling at the RRP (recommended retail price) of $109 for a new game. On release I have seen new PS3 games selling for as low as $79 at JBHIFI. Not sure this is the same situation for XBOX, maybe Pure Mongrel can make a comment. Happy gaming people.

Thanks for the info, didn't know about the patch issues.
I bought a game called Demon's Souls from Hong Kong because they weren't planning a western release, it's been updated a few times without any problems, but now Atlus have picked it up and plan to release it in the western world. If they release a patch for the US/AU/EU version and it does mess up my Chinese one, and idea if then buying the western version would then work, or work with the saves from the Chinese one? If that makes any sense :S |

With XBOX 360 most games are region locked so you can't import every title.
When purchasing from overseas, make sure that the game includes your region code (for example many UK games will work here, as well as Singapore and Hong Kong). Play Asia is a good place to get imports from and eBay is usually ok (Just make sure they have a lot of positive responses and that you double check the game is region free or includes your regions code.) I personally have never imported a 360 game so I can not give feed back on updates, etc. I am yet to find a game that I have wanted that bad that was not ultimately released here. As A_1 said, if you shop around you can usually get the games you want at a good price. I have however imported a few PS3 games (In fact if you look in the pre-owned section at many EB and JB HiFi's you will find a few imported games there) and they have all worked great. I have never had an issue with updates. SONY made the games component region free to stop "legitimate" reasons to mod their consoles.

If you are prepared to wait, you could get it shipped to me and I could ship it too you.
You would really want to own this game though as shipping to here and then to you would be horrendous. It is not available here from what I can see + won't 2010 be out soon? Maybe a US TOGer can help you with this one?
