Move over Kratos ... War is here!
Just picked up Darksiders today. This game is available on XBOX 360 and PS3.
 Now I don't normally go for this style of game, but two things convinced me to give it a go; 1) The art work by Joe Madureira. Ever since I read the Ultimate Avengers 3, I have been a fan of this talented artists work. Now I get to play one of his best looking characters. 2) NO QUICK TIME EVENTS! (No explanation required). I have only just started the game, but already I am impressed by the world and the combat, although fears of it become repetitive is starting to creep in ... just like any GOD of War style game I guess. I temper this with the fact that I have not found War's gun yet, his horse, nor have I purchased a kick arse looking scythe for the princely sum of 1000 souls  First 15min of game play. (Spoiler alert) Anyone else played this game yet? If so what do you think?

This one has me more tempted that Bayonetta i am going to have to wait though kinda made a new pact with myself to cut down on the buying and do more renting.
As it is a single player, on go through, kind of game; renting might be the best option.

IGN has given their reviews on these two and they prefer Bayonetta over Darksiders.
They also indicated that Darksiders has a few issues on PS3 and Bayonetta has screen tearing on XBOX (patch to fix on it's way). Me I'm sticking with God of War (GOW).

Got this for the PS3, I'm about 10 hours in.
It's a great game so far, half GoW half Zelda more or less. The graphics are very visually distinctive and I definitely dig the art style. I don't feel the gameplay gets repetitive considering you gain new abilities or gear every or hour or so that add a fair bit (imo) of variety to the combat and exploration. I got the PS3 version of the XBOX version due to the reported technical issues and significant screen tearing in the XBOX. I have not encountered any issues with the PS3 version thus far; framerate is pretty smooth and combat is fast, fluid, and fun. I highly recommend this for anyone into action-adventure games. Oh, also, everyone's favorite Joker is in the game throughout War's journey. Who can resist that? |
