Dying to find out what this game is...

Hi everybody,

As title states I've been trying to find out a game for the past week for my girlfriend, it was a game she kept playing when she was young and never ended up completing it so she wants another crack. She doesn't remember the title but she just gives descriptions of the game and I'll list them all for you.
-She thinks it was on the PSX? It was a console that took CDs.
-Title menu has male & female character back to back holding a gun.
- 2 Characters male and female, she thinks they were robots - 2 player coop?
-Has intro movie they were brought down by an aircraft or UFO? sticks a syringe into themselves to remove some of their blood/fluid (if they're robots?)?
- from her descriptions game play is similar to Streets of Rage or even Dynamite Cop
- beat em up game? use of weapons and guns.

That's all I've been given, I'll greatly appreciate any help and suggestions.
