Oh, and before someone says "why don't you learn to play a real instrument"...

Harmonix have designed "Pro Mode" for exactly that, with a midi controller input device...

and here's the Mad Catz guitar designed for it - 17 frets and six strings, the controller features an astounding 102 buttons built into its neck.

The problem with these games is there's rarely more than half a dozen songs I actually like.

I wish they'd release a version that has the base game on the disc with no songs, and a dlc voucher to download x amount of tracks, then have the entire catalog from all the games available. Will never happen though.

Rockband 2 is completely compatible with Rockband 1, Rockband AC/DC, and all DLC. So far, Rockband 3 will be compatible, but they're not sure if they'll make the keyboard parts of the songs work as a keyboard with old content.

Harmonix have always said they're making a platform, not a game - it's part of the reason they left the Guitar Hero franchise after the first game.

I would like it very much if this game taught me how to play guitar. I've been looking for an excuse to learn and from what I've read so far this might be the ticket. the box pictured above, is that the midi interface for the keyboard or the guitar? (or both?) I'd rather not buy a plastic keyboard if I can use my real one.
