This is great news! You can always be assured that a GTA game will be good value for money.

I would expect it to be the first quarter 2013 before we get our hands on this, late 2013 for the PC if we're lucky.

GTA is too big in it's own right to be a holiday season release and they tend to hype it up for a year as well with lots of press and previews.

Going by the logo it doesn't look like it will be Vice City which is a bummer as it remains my favourite GTA, not necessarily the best but the one that hit all the right 80's notes with me
Los Santos is what the logo reminds me off immediately based on their Midnight Club LA South Central expansion.

Still, I am yet to be disappointed by a GTA game, the older I get the less I become tolerant for corny cliche type of games and I love games that little bit more grounded in reality, GTA, Red Dead, Assassin's creed do this very well. Despite the criticism that GTA IV took itself too seriously I really liked the direction GTA went and I hope that V will equally maintain that direction of becoming a more mature game.

Glad to see it finally becoming official though!

yeah, I wasn't keen on GTA IV due to this change, but thankfully there's the Saints Row games for immature people like myself

My guess is that it'll be based around casinos - V is Las Venturas/Las Vegas. That gives them a lot of room for the hero to be a gambler who has bitten off more than he can chew, but ends up owning the major casinos. Bit like Vice City.

Of course, I could be wrong

I'm really hoping it'll revisit areas of San Andreas too. GTASA was my all-time fave GTA.
They got the balance of missions/tone/story/humour just right.
Hell, I'd even be happy if all they did was an HD re-release of GTASA!

Grand Theft Auto V Will Be Set in Los Angeles, May Star Multiple Characters

Strengthening long-standing rumors for years that the next Grand Theft Auto would be set in Los Angeles or a fictional version thereof, a source familiar with the game told Kotaku today that those rumors are true. GTA V will be set in some version of L.A., bringing the famous franchise to a place that last got the GTA treatment in the series' top-selling Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

the "FIVE" at the end of the game's logo is lifted almost directly from an old Silver Certificate, a type of paper currency used in the US between 1878 and 1964 (and which, if you can still find a note, technically remains legal tender).
