Lightbulb Playstation Home: An Opinion.

Firstly, let me state this is not my opinion. I don't own a PS of any shape or colour. I just thought that this was something that might provoke some discussion.

It appears Tycho of Penny Arcade isn't a big fan of Home. For example:
Quote:
The Beta for Playstation home is now available to everyone, and now you know what I know: this is what happens when your marketing department tries to make a game. Here is everything you need to understand about Home, if you should accidentally launch it from your XMB: press and hold the Playstation button in the center of your Dual-Shock or Sixaxis controller. From the menu that appears, select Quit.
You can read the full article here.

Yup I was trying to get out of it myself through the menu options and not finding an exit game in that location.

Then I did the PS Button and quit.

PS Home? I couldn't connect. Never found a server. Gave up in disgust after first exploratory attempt.
Yeh, the PS button worked a treat.

It does appear to suffer from connection problems.

I guess they could argue it's a Beta after all.

Having to download each area individually is a pain, should have been a single installation.

Yeh, the PS button worked a treat.

had the same troubles connecting....persisted 4 about half an hour without success.
then quit...... back 2 the XMB.....selected home again, & it conected instantly.

downloading each area seperately didnt bother me too much.
there's the option of 'background downloading'.......so i just did other things while that was happening.

what did piss me off, was everytime u pass through a doorway, it loads again!
thats like going back in time 2 Gta: vice-city ,but no chainsaws

Here in Oz we must be attached to the UK home. Makes sense why the load times are so long etc. Until we get an Oz based Home, I don't think it will be effective here.

An interesting read regarding the various homes:

Comparing Home around the world.

I feel sorry for the females in there. My daughter saw me with a "dude", and of course she had to make her own girl. I let her. Then we took her out. And O...M...F...G... Swarmed by loads of blokes trying to chat her up. They just would not stop following her around. These guys were trying to claim territory! Recieved masses of friend invites in the process. One bloke in particular was telling others to piss off and get the hell away. Didn't come through too clearly so she didn't understand it. She asked to get on again, so I just said I don't have Home anymore.

Did she use your ID or her own? I know there are some good parent control features on the PS3 and was just wondering if they were enforced on Home.

I understand your fears though mate; I won't let my son use it either.

I was thinking maybe SONY could have a "Kids" home, but than I realized that that would only make an easier environment for perverts.

As there are far fewer female console owners (at least in the western world), Home will be a very uncomfortable place for those players I fear.
