Default Just ordered a PS3.

I have just place an order for a PS3 bundle and I'm quite pleased with the package I got, after a lot of searching this one seemed like a pretty good deal - 80Gb model with Fallout 3, Saints Row 2 and Motor Storm-Pacific rift, all for £289.99 .
I also noticed that they had GTA IV listed twice on the same site (play.com), one for £39.99 and also for £17.99, so guess which one I ordered .

I bought the console mainly as a media centre after I realised that my HTPC is too low spec to take a Blu-Ray drive and it would have cost just as much to upgrade it and the PS3 will do everything that I do on my HTPC anyway and I get to play games on it too .

I just need to tell the wife what I spent all of my overtime on for working through the new year holiday, wish me luck .

Welcome to the Fray, Rog. Now you'll have to get Burnout and LittleBigPlanet like the rest of us addicts

Essential PS3 purchases;

Dead Space
Fallout 3
Burnout Paradise
Sports Sim (choice of Tiger 09, NBA Live 09 or Top Spin 3)

It really is a brilliant system, best of luck with it!

LBP is on my shopping list, not getting it with the package I ordered was the only disappointment so far, I could have had just LPB and the console for the same price that I paid for the package I ended up getting, so it was a no brainer really.
I'll post up my PSN ID in the thread when I get set up.

The wife took it very well when I told her, a little too well. She said I deserve to treat myself because I work so hard. I just need to find out what she's after now .

Just one quick question, what video hookup cable(s) does it ship with? I want to make sure I have everything I need for when it arrives.

It comes with the standard cable they all come with... RCA... boring!!! Been there http://www.theoldergamers.com/forum/...e-quality.html

So if your TV has it, HDMI is the way to go.

and don't get taken in by the sales hype about gold tiped HDMI cable for $250
any HDMI cable will do. Mine was bought from JayCars for around $15 and works a treat.

Yep, it's a digital signal so pretty much any cable with give the same results.
Unfortunately my current LCD TV is fairly old and it doesn't have an HDMI port so I have a choice of either the DVI-HDCP port or component, I'm thinking of going with the component as the sockets are not in use at the moment and the DVI wont carry the audio to the TV.
I'm going to change it for a bigger 1080p screen this year anyway as it's only 720p and it's a tiny 32inch, seriously I can hardly see the thing

Not been able to get into LBP or Burnout myself only played them for about an hour a piece.

GTA IV i like though you should enjoy it, i myself just picked up Fifa 09 and Tiger 09 ill let you know how i like them later.

Nhl 09 will be on my list of games to get next after playing the demo it seems quite good.

Don't know about this
Burnout Yes but Dead Space and Fallout 3 I wouldn't call essential
