Default DS Question - Save Games

Okay so I have a PSP and you can slide the power button to power down the PSP but place your game/PSP in standbye mode. Switch on the power and the game is still their ready to continue playing.

Does the DS have anything like this.?

A few games I have been playing of late on the DS don't appear to have frequent save points. Part way through a stage I finish my train journey and need to stop the game but the game doesn't have a save point.

After quitting the game and starting it back up again I find I have to do the whole stage again from the beginning. Overlord Minions is the current game I'm playing.

Tonight I discovered closing the DS up appears to place it in standbye?
How much power will that consume.?

Another question. Is their a battery upgrade option for the DS.?

I guess I'm just silly that way.

Google is your friend.

The answer is yes.

Close the cover places the game and hand held in sleep mode. Power save mode.
The screens are turned off. Open the cover to resume the game.

Yes battery can be upgraded. My current battery is a 3.7v 1000mAh.
Found on ebay a 3.7v 1600mAh for around $10 delivered Aus dealer or $5 delivered Hong Kong dealer.

Not sure how much more running time I would get from the increase power supply.
Anyone with that answer.?

Anyone got some figures on running time and standbye time for both of these battery types.?

Well not impressed. My battery ran out after a full charge last night.

I played it for 1.10hr in the morning, 1hr at lunch, 1.10hrs in the afternoon total 3.20hrs.
In between it was on sleep mode for a total of 6hrs.

All up that's 9.20 hrs but not all was play time before the battery gave out.

Found online this estimate:

lowest brightness setting- 14-18 hours
2nd brightess setting- 10-12 hours
3rd brigtness setting- 6-8 hours
highest brightness setting- 4-7 hours

Not sure that's continuous game play or not. My DS is on setting three for brightness but I still don't think it should have gone out after only 3.2hrs game play.
