hm. I didn't realise the slim PS3s already had the 'install other OS' feature removed. Maybe it *is* kosher.

I think it was to stop hackers trying to get in though a loop hole in the Console OS by installing Linux.

I'm of to minds.

I do have the older machine and I have been tempted but never actually installed Linux on it.
So many times I have been tempted.

I prefer to see the security of the Console OS uncompromised so think this is a good way to close the window as a draft is sweeping through.

Then again.............they have continued to reduce this once powerfull machine to that of an...XBOX.....removing part of the backward compatibility sucked when they came to AUS. Continuing to reduce the device even more with less USB slots, No memory card slots and now no OS. When will it end.

Followup: OK, It wasn't, as hoped, an April Fools day prank. My PS3 tonight downloaded the update and wiped out the ability to use an Other OS.

I did the same but wasn't worried. I would be more concerned if I did have a second OS and the update removed the ability to access it or wipe it completely.
