Default How long before Sony stomps this new hack?

I'm thinking Sony's reaction will be swift indeed.

PS3 now jailbreakable via USB dongle? | Crave - CNET

I don't really like the pirating potential, but running games off the hard drive alone would be nice.

Yeah, I have to agree. They are going to pull the plug on this fast. I would hate to be one of the people to spend over one hundred dollars for this product and then not have it work!!

sony have kept the PS3 clean for 3 years, i would say they will be pulling out all the stops to disable jailbreakable and send a message that people will be waisting there money on this hack

I like the idea of having your games accessible on your HDD, I upgraded to a 320gb when i first got the PS3, mainly for PlayTV option. When you are a pc gamer and used to steam having most of your games on the HDD changing disks on the ps3 is a hassle. (eg im untidy and will leave cases and disks lying about).

thanks for the info spunkmeyer

I'm still lost as to why they just don't make it a standard feature like they did on the 360. Then again, some of the games still work acessing both the Blu-Ray and HDD at the same time. So maybe it's a performance thing.

The homebrew potential excites me more. Putting xbmc on a PS3 would be a fantastic HTPC.

Just got an email saying it's available at a certain Aussie store which deals in this kind of stuff, they were actually the ones who discovered it too. Had a look at the site and it sells for $170. Reasonable price I suppose considering how much pirates would save by using it.

Also reading about it, I'm not sure how much Sony will actually be able to do to stop it. It doesn't modify anything on your PS3, so they might not be able to detect who has used it. They'll be able to do something to stop it from running I'm sure, but it's also easy to upgrade the firmware on it to work around whatever Sony implements.

So what your saying is it's much like the R4 in a DS.?

Doesn't affect the internal Firmware just adds a little extra ability.
