I paid $180 which is a great price compared to $400-$500 on ebay

Click, I'm curious. What is it?
(And don't say "Derp, it's a Portal gun" I KNOW that...) but does it have a second real-world function as well or is it purely cosmetic? (like, is it a light for example?)
If not, it strikes me it could be easily modded!

PS: That's a v. cool bookend on the left, too. I presume the orange one is on the other side?
