Default Minecraft Server Temporarily Off-Line

Hi All,

Tonight we experienced some issues with the Minecraft server. Many were quick to blame the map update process which occured at 1am when the trobles actually started which is quite logical. However this was incorrect. I believe there may have been some other issue that was simply made worse by adding the map render process. The issue persisted even after the map render was stopped.

I have made the decision to deliberately leave the MC server off line to minimise the chace of data corruption and further losses until I hve a chance to talk to exe to see if we can get to the bottom of the issue.

I expect to have the server up sometime tomorrow and will post a notice to this thread when I do.

What are the issues? Me and some others noted that stuff appeared in their inventories, is it related to this?
I also noticed when I made pulsers on my own single player map that they sometimes started lagging the map, if this is what disrupts the map we might want to stop the two pulsers I have.

I believe the issues are external to MC. The problems persisted for other services (TF2 and Mumble) even when Minecraft and the map render were BOTH offline.

That is why, until the cause is found, the server is off-line.

I will keep you posted.

Its because today is Sunday the 7th.

every one of the 19 arrays on the host was being disk checked.
They are about to be finished.
We just got unlucky. Couple of hours and they will all be done, but the load on the server should be reasonably normal now.

Sounds like last night was the way the entire stock of cookies crumble, not just a single biscuit. Thanks for enlightening us all Exe. I tend to use crashes like that as a "sign from the electronic deity" that I shouldn't be gaming at 1am in the morning. Perhaps I was misunderstanding the nature of the deity.

yeah no really a crash, just massive load spike due to maintenance. Map rendering wouldn't help it at all though, so thanks manuzza for blocking it.

Hey exe, that RAID problem seems to be ongoing for quite a long time ... excess of 2-1/2 years or so, weird that it hasn't been solved by now..

Edit..

Have you checked out if the problem is occurring in other distro's than Ubuntu, or is it isolated to software RAID'ing in that distro?
