So that, by default, is a limitation if it applies to our map. Such Apps might be helpful to some, but others will not be able to make the most of them.

Well... I had a look and you have to do it on a spot on the google world map, you can't (well I couldn't find how to) put our map in there... so it itself isn't going to help, unless we can get that feature somehow added to whatever program thingie makes our map...

But then I wonder how it would work... it seems in your google account you're creating a customised bit of the map for yourself, so all it's really doing is making the ability to take a screen shot of the area that you've drawn on... (which is helpful) I don't think it could be used to mark borders on the entire map - unless a modmin or someone was to mark out all claims (if we all had the ability to mark out spots, we'd also then have the ability to draw smiley faces and unmentionable things on it - so I don't think that would be a good idea)

Yeah, agreed. But you can still see my idea of drawing circles on the map with names attached.

  4. Find the surrounding warp points and look at the extend of their construction.
  5. If anyone looks like they might be using an area that you want to use, send them a PM or email.
  6. If all is okay, take a screenshot of the map, marking the extent of your claim and any surrounding warp points/landmarks for reference.
  7. Start a thread about your claim, include the screenshot.
  8. Inform the upkeeper of this thread (presently Obsi) about your thread so she can add it to the list.
This is a good summary of the recommended approach. Steps 1-5 are pretty much required to avoid problems, with 6-8 being optional but recommended.

Just bumping this to remind people it's here.... If you plan to build something (anything), you should be checking it's not in someone's claimed area and you should be setting your claim, in case there are any objections, prior claims or underground works you can't see....

Can I also suggest that if you plan to build something aboveground close to something someone else has already built (though there should be ample space, so you shouldn't need to build close to someone else), that you talk to that person to check they don't mind.... Some people have definite themes for their areas, and while they may not have any control over what happens beyond their claimed borders, it would be nice to think that in the interest of neighbourly conduct we can take the care to check that their scenic views aren't obstructed by something out of keeping with the surroundings......

I understand the reasons for claiming areas.... but I dont know... to me it seems a bit over the top for a game.

Whats the point of the multiplayer aspect if you have to claim an area (aka nearly getting permission) to build miles away from anyone else, you might as well play single player and just post your world to people to have a look at it.

But hey - thats just me
