Default Video taking programs

I don't know their technical name

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for programs that can be used to make videos from minecraft?

I downloaded fraps, but the free version is limited to 30 seconds recording, and has the website shown on the screen.... I'm discovering that 30 seconds isn't long enough really.. and I don't have any editing software I could use to splice them together...

I've downloaded a couple of others to try, but just wondering if anyone had anything they know and like...

The full version of fraps is a worthy choice.

I used sony vegas as my editing software. Got it when I was making videos in WoW. Was handy for other games as well like in my link below

I have a much much better pc now. I should prob try to edit one together for FF >.>;;

I think XFire has a built-in recorder? And it's free as far as I know.

It's also $50 ... so while it would be neat to have, I can live without it...

I tried We Game, Taksi, Game Cam, Play Claw and Cam Studio

The first 3 didn't seem to work with minecraft at all... PlayClaw has a stupid screensaveresque watermark floating around the screen (and has nothing to show it's actually recording).. though it is only $30 for the full version, so it is cheaper than fraps... but Cam Studio works, has no watermark or time limit, though does seem to have an annoying feature where you have to select the part of the screen to record each time you use it...

That seems to be more stuff than I need really...

Another freebie to throw into the mix is called krut.

Have no more detail than that. Used it briefly at work on one occasion. Did the job at the time.

[EDIT: http://krut.sourceforge.net/ ]

Just found a nice little free video related program, to assist getting it to youtube among other things. I can't recommend it specifically as I haven't used it yet but it gets recommended on youtube by people posting how easy it is to get a video onto youtube using this, and says it's much faster.

Free software: video converter, ipod converter, mp4 converter

[edit: looking at it now on my computer and just realised it also has a screen recorder too.]

Doesn't work for me... it's EXTREMELY choppy (it captured like 1 frame in every 5 - so completely unusable), and while it automatically recognises the active window to capture (some others I tried don't), it has no quick key to press to start it... so you have to have the game paused, click the program, then unpause the game. There didn't seem to be any options to set a key for recording... or for anything really...

CamStudio seems to be the best of the ones I've tried, except the quality is a bit low, and it has the slightly annoying thing that when you press the key to record, it brings up a box that you can use to set the size of the area you are recording, so you have to click that to make it go away and then it starts to record.... but at least it doesn't pause the game while doing that.

-- by the way, those links don't seem to work.... anyone using them needs to take out the forum part and add in http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/products

eg turn this: theoldergamers.com/forum/products/dvd/Free-YouTube-Download.htm

into this: dvdvideosoft.com/products/dvd/Free-YouTube-Download.htm

Hey Obsi,

I had a really quick look at the screen recording. There was a pause value (in settings) you could set so it started after x seconds, so maybe try that.

I had a go at krut recorder tonight and it gave me a pretty smooth mc video (at 15 fps recording anyway, which I think is fine and in the spirit of minecraft blockiness anyway lol.) Might try at 30fps next time.

Cheers,
Max

I re-downloaded krut and tried it again... then I remembered why I uninstalled it.... it saved it as a .mov file, which I couldn't open....

.mov is a real crap format imo, at least on anything that isn't a mac.
