Default How high?

Hi all,

Just wondering - does anyone know how high the mine craft world is? (as in how many blocks?)

The lad and I are starting a frankly huge project, and rather than pester mods all the time for stuff, we plan to do it on out own server at home. (where i shall have the power..moo ha hahha hahah haa....er....scuse me)

Is it possible to set these limits?

I did google, but found it bit hard to sift through the results...

As an aside - is it possible to export and import creations between servers?
i was thinking maybe you could save blocks within a certain set of co-ordinates, and then import that to another server, again by using a a co-ordinate to place the object at?

Servers specifically I don't know but from single player maps programs like mcedit lets you select an area and save it so you can load it on another map. So there should be something.

A world is 128 blocks from top to bottom. 64 from bottom to sea level and 64 above sea level.

I think for many large projects people use the afore mentioned editors to cut a deeper starting level or hole to build in.

On the creative server I was going to build a scale model of the Effiel Tower, but decided against it because of the low ceiling in the world...

Currently yes:

Each zone will probably be something like 256*256*128 blocks

Whilst the horizontal planes of the Maps are vast in size, the vertical plane remains at a fixed 128 Block height
