Default i didn't know...

that sand stone can occur naturally!

I thought it was only a crafted thing, but is was mining a tunnel for a rail link to spawn from my NW outpost, and i hit some. I thought that i must have hit someones fort, but it was just under a sand hill.

NAM

I believe that sandstone is now found as the bottom layer of a pile of sand. Therefore, you must be in an unexplored section of the world.

It would be worth keeping note of where you find natural sandstone (I think it needs 3 or four sand blocks above it and it will make the last block sandstone from memory when it creates the chunk).

If you find sandstone then most likely that chunk will also have the blue die if it is mined deeper.

We found the blue blocks, but had not noticed the sandstone anywhere as yet (which doesn't mean it wasn't there lol). (survival server)

The best way to notice the new areas is to look for new trees.

Hmm, that's a point, can you actually grow the new types of trees? I've not seen it happen come to think of it.

Not sure.... I would have thought that since the white barked trees seem to randomly occur in all biomes, that when you plant a new tree you'd have the chance of getting one.... but I've not tried planting many trees since the new ones came out
