Default Weather to come in MC v1.5?

From Notch's twitter (Markus Persson (notch) on Twitter), read it bottom up:

  • @TheFedora You can't see sun/moon/stars while it's raining, and days are one level darker.
  • Higher odds of catching fish while raining.. Good one. I'll try making it fill small holes with water, but it might be annoying.. brb
  • I'm not making it solidify lava, as that would ruin all surface lava structures when the first rain hits. But it does put out fires.
  • Wolves get wet in the rain. Crops will get watered. Anything else it should affect?
  • @Peachie_John yes
    • @notch Wont that lower the framerate because of the extra rendering of the weather effects?
  • @103150162151163 yeppers!
  • Ok, so it doesn't look GREAT on the border of two biomes.. http://i.imgur.com/UVNCC.jpg
  • @zadirion Ice and snow will regrow, farms will autowater
  • Adding rain and snow to 1.5.

From the blog (11/11/11 : The Word of Notch)

Quote:
Weíve been working on finishing up Achievements and Statistics for 1.5, I ran into some issues with JSON, got frustrated, and added weather instead. Developing new features like that is what I enjoy doing the most, so I ended up covering a lot of ground. Thereís periodic downfall (snow in snowy areas, rain in others, nothing in deserts) that make the sky darker, hides the sun, moon and stars, and makes everything wet. Ice grows back in cold regions, and snowfall covers the ground when itís snowing. During rain/snow, there can be occasional thunderstorms with lightning. I havenít finished the actual lightning bolt yet, but everything else is fairly done.

Once the stats are done and the weather has been tested through, weíll release 1.5. Iím guessing this will be next week. The piston mod might get added, but it will not be in time for 1.5.
The piston mod is something a fan developed that allows things like blocks to be shifted. It will be great for automating processes like the building/repairing of bridges.

Another vid that shows all the cool (and rather dangerous) things that can be done with the piston mod. We may need to regulate its use as it could be rather destructive.

That is of course reliant on this being what Notch is talking about.

That's a pretty damn awsome mod, all the mechanics and traps you could build with this... oh my
I really like the hidden bookshelf entrance...

Imagine what sort of games you could do with mazes with moving walls...

And making watercourses and lava runs empty and fill, and sand traps. This will be great for adventure scenarios. The Yogcast guys might actually be intellectually challenged for once.
