Default The word of notch: 1.6 Nether is coming!

Fixing bugs, enabling nether.

1.6 officially has a release date of “not soon”. The main features will be the maps, bug fixes, and now a functioning Nether in multiplayer.

This might stop me from trying to find working mods to allow travel in and out of the Nether. But we could be waiting a month or more for the next update.

Woohoo! Finally I'll be able to make perpetual fire blocks in multiplayer again!

That's right, just what we need, more ways to burn down our creations/houses

Will be good to have the Nether working in SMP finally.

Notch is a funny guy. A lot of his latest edits for what will be Beta 1.6 will be bug fixes. Here a selection he has mentioned on twitter (Twitter , read the quotes in reverse). Somehow, I don't believe some of them.

Quote:
notch * svn commit -m"Fixed like a godzillion bugs. Going to bed."

notch * Made booster tracks speedier

notch * Aaaand I'm spent for today. 34 bugs fixed. Remaining are OSX bugs, SMP bugs, and the cave rotation bug thingamajig.

notch * "Fixed" beds in the nether

notch * Also, removing creepers, making all blocks spherical, and limiting the map height to 7.

notch * Oh, and I also nerfed boat/water elevators. It's still possible to do, it's just quite a bit slower. #muoahaha

notch * From my changelist: "* Fixed minecarts next to each other causing extreme velocities (sorry!)"

Does that mean people's boosters won't work, forcing them to use powered rails?

Who knows. Consider the twitter messages as a forewarning.

I think it has to do with the escalation of velocity the longer carts are next to each other. My guess is there will be a cap placed rather than removal of the feature.

It may or may not be true... A problem with it would be that all minecart magazines used in more advanced stations won't work as they need a booster to yank one cart out. My newly designed magazine using powered rails would still work though, but it's more complicated to build.
If he added the pistons it would be trivial to make a minecart magazine.
