Default The Sky Dimension

No, the Sky Dimension hasn't been added officially, but yes, the code was left in Minecraft to access it. Of course, someone has already written mods to take advantage of this in single player ([V1.6.4] 303's mods: Sky Dimension on Earth - Minecraft Forum).

Someone running (and falling) around the sky dimension

This time, he uses a balloon mod as well. Pity it isn't multiplayer or Bazz and I could have races

I've played with that balloon mod Sor - 's very good.

With the sky dimension - this exists above the ceiling of the current world height?

I believe it has no bedrock but does have an upper and lower limit to the world. I don't know whether the frequency of ores was changed, but the height at which they appear might have been adjusted , ie. diamonds found higher than normal. I believe that it is always noon. Notch likes a suggestion that was made to him that this become the Dream dimension and that there be a chance that you can visit it whilst sleeping.

Of course, because it is a work in progress, who knows how it will end up.

Ah - ok.
I was thinking it was an extension of the current world - that is, once complete it could be enabled - now I see it is another world... like the nether.

Cheers.

An interesting thing one should consider is that you can't actually build downwards, so you can never build something in the sky dimension that is lower than the lowest generated block.

What do you mean you can't build downwards?

Is that something specific to these sky thingies? Coz you can build down????

Or do you just mean you can't look down and build in that direction? (Can be done, but requires a fair bit of mucking about)

From looking at the mod's forum thread, I think the clouds mark the limit below. But I am not sure how much of that is the mod versus what Notch wrote. The forums also seems to indicate that you can find gold, but not diamond due to the height of the land on the y axis.

It requires lots of plunging to your death, adding one block at a time!

edit: Actually, thinking about it, you could add a waterfall next to where you want to build and glide downwards, adding blocks, until you got to where you couldn't add them anymore.

Yes that's a very clever idea, way to think outside the box!
