That is what I did when I wanted to test how the Nether portals behaved before MC 1.6 was released. I started the server, made some portals, spawned some items and placed them in chests. Then I quit, copied the world data to a single player directory, and came in playing single player. No need to use an inventory editor, when I can /give in the multiplayer. What's more, I already have a known world I am accustomed to with portals that now work.
If you are using Bukkit, then it has just released a new recommended build for MC 1.6.6 (http://www.bukkit.org/job/dev-CraftBukkit/818/
). The border mod we use is presently BorderGuard v3.10 Turbo
, though I am starting to like the look of WorldBorder
as well. BorderGuard claims to work for the latest Bukkit. No news yet on WorldBorder.
