Default Minecraft and Xbox

Don't ask me why, but it seems that the next platform for Minecraft is the Xbox. I haven't yet seen anything indicating that this is a joke.

Hat Films made a few videos for Mojang, but it isn't clear yet whether they are of playing in Xbox or just promo stuff on a PC.

I saw this was mentioned on E3 so it's true.

Hmmm, don't know how I feel about this. On one hand, it has to impact upon pure PC development of the game, but on the other the additional validation processes for release on Xbox may have a positive knock on effect on buggy releases.

It's actually a seperate team working on the 360 version, so PC development is still full steam ahead.

the xbox arcade is second only to steam from what I heard as a games distribution platform. I could be wrong though, cos I don't actually own one.

Yes, but as we've seen in the past, the gameplay and feel of the movement changes when games get developed from a console point of view first, and ported to the PC second. Hopefully, the development will be PC oriented first, but it's possible at some point the dev team might say, oh we can't pull that off quite as well on the console, so we might not do this nice new feature.

The classic feature might be to utilise the Kinect and *really* make us sweat when mining obsidian blocks. However, one of the Mojang team (can't remember who) has said that Kinect is an add-on to the Xbox, indicating that the design template they are working to (if any) will be for the basic Xbox.

A question to Notch on Twitter:

GingerMickeyC: ...if minecraft is on X-Box, is there any way that MOD's could be installed?

Notch: not really, no

You could probably mod an xbox installation of minecraft.

You shouldnt, it would involve cracking the console to run unsigned code and this is probably why hes saying no. It would never run anything multiplayer anyway.

Shjould be interesting to see how it looks, might get a copy when it comes so I can compare them
