Default History of the Minecraft Division

To put you in historical perspective, the first servers were hosted by Fate. We had no fall damage and tools that never wore out. But we were all new to this and things like coloured wool didn't exist in multiplayer.

Obsi and I joined in about 5 days after the Creative world had been created. All that we saw was a road from spawn to this massive castle that Foxman had built (and later extended). We were in awe. Obsi then started her Obsidian Castle and I went for a walk to the hill where I built the pagoda and airship.

In the coming months, many others joined in, Toggers and pubbers. We had fun trying to save NAM's hill from the fire and lava that engulfed it (and the mobs who we thought kept spreading it!). We shifted the world to Exe's machines. We had to deal with our first griefer. And most importantly, we became a TOG Division.

The spawn village is built on land that was not originally flat. The east end was a hill which people had been mining under (and conducting tnt experiments around). One night a number of us decided to flatten it and lay out paths so that a village could be made. Buildings sprung up very quickly in the coming days. A few months later, we flattened the land around the town square (\warp townsquare).

Survival was added about Xmas last year.

I think Photobucket shrunk these a little. The originals are accessible via Map Dumps . I must warn you the original maps start to get mighty big, mighty fast. The map for 2 Oct 2010 was so large after Manuzza's little boat trip that Photobucket won't even accept it.

I will try to get a higher res copy of these maps stored elsewhere for the Division later.

Edit: Now added a reduced version of 2 Oct 2010 (which Photobucket further reduced)

That makes it sound like we were the only ones :P

I remember Red_One was going on about this new game... "minecraft" and that we should all come check it out.... so NAM, Mixa and I all popped in one night, stumbled around a bit working out what the game was....

Then NAM decided to make a lair inside a mountain, angered the Gods and started a volcano that set half the server on fire I remember Guryon, NAM, Vonder and I all running about trying to contain the lava and wondering if the animals were setting them forest alight by running around burning to death between the trees.

ahh... those were the days

Well, it was a matter of lava that escaped up the top of NAM's hill and no matter what was done, it couldn't be blocked fast enough, and eventually it reached the trees and the pigs. Then chaos became an understatement.

Not surprisingly, NAM went to build somewhere else in the world after that.

Reminds me of a friends place. I jokingly suggested he setup waterfalls from his tower to keep the creepers away. It worked but they were still out there (by this time his place was nicknamed Creeper Hill for all the creepers that were forever there) so I double-jokingly suggested he swap to lava.

He did.

Wow, sooo much lava. Lol. So I think I have some idea of what went on.

Sounds like he was playing at the intersection of Minecraft and Dwarf Fortress.
