I'm being attacked on sight now by zombie pigmen. Not sure why. Are they different than previous versions?

Yeah..............I have found a heap of Obsidian but went Diamond hunting yesterday with no joy

You must have hurt one of their ancestors. Generally if you attack one of them, then they all game up on you. Even when you return after dying, they remember what you did. Eventually they stop attacking you, not sure why. It might be that only those spawned at the time you attacked remember you.

It happened to me once (a while ago), and I'd never attacked them, but I think a Ghast must have fireballed them, and they then blamed me for it and came after me? That's the only thing I could think of.

Ghasts are nasty - my first foray into the nether saw me swamped by zombie pigmen whilst Ghasts bombarded me. I dropped dead in about 10 secs.

My second foray (to get my stuff) lasted longer and I managed to kill a few before beating a hasty retreat.

I have a portal in the lower levels of my tower but return is via Obsi's tower one the other side of Spawn.

That is exactly what happened. A ghast fireball exploded and wounded one. Next think it has gone ballistic so I had to kill it.
