Another snapshot (http://www.mojang.com/2012/09/minecr...shot-12w38a/):
Main features:
  • Updated and added new sounds by C418
  • Added a neutral mob - a bat
  • Added a hostile mob (doesn’t spawn yet) - a "witch"
  • Command block target parameters have been upgraded, check here for details: https://gist.github.com/3736487
  • Beacon artwork has changed
  • Wood trunk blocks are now rotated differently. Instead of using the player’s position, it will rotate based on the face it is placed upon. This is mainly a test, so feedback is welcomed, but for me personally this way is a bit easier.

  • Firespread has been slightly nerfed again to prevent infinitely spreading fires

The snapshot has been updated to 12w40b (http://www.mojang.com/2012/10/minecr...shot-12w40a/):

The first snapshot included the witches hut, which I think could do with some improvement (and a ladder). Inside is a crafting bench and a cauldron. Witches and slimes now spawn in any swamps. The witches hut may be generated in any newly created swamp biome chunk (like NPC villages are in other chunks).



For mapmakers, the NBT (Named Binary Tag) is the ability for map makers to hack the saved games and give items unique names and "lore" text. They can now name magical swords as Excalibur, Sting or Bruce.

the latest snapshot (http://www.mojang.com/2012/10/minecr...shot-12w41a/):
main features:
  • Added a new Anvil block for repairing, merging & naming items
  • Added an option for cape-owners to hide their capes ingame
  • Effects given by the Beacon will be less intrusive on the screen
  • Level-up sound now only plays every 5 levels
  • A Creeper can now have custom blast radius for map makers.
  • Breeding animals gives experience.
  • Mobs no longer forget that they are aggressive against a player in Creative mode after a few seconds anymore
The naming of items will cost you lots of xp but you will be able to combine enchanted items by repairing them together to make uber-enchanted weapons. And by Anvil he means the new metal block, not the world data system.

  • Anvil block has been tweaked (it’s cheaper to create, minor visual changes, and you can repair tools using wood/ingots/diamonds)
  • Bats no longer trample crops or trigger pressure plates
  • Redstone repeaters can be “locked” (fixed output) by having a powered repeater connected to its left or right side
