features:
  • Trading with villagers has been updated
  • Enchantment system has been rebalanced
  • A new Redstone-activating block (tripwire?)
  • Better Creative inventory
  • Pausing should work in single-player now
  • Added an “adventure” game mode (/gamemode 2), but requires more work

Summary of changes from redstonehelper on reddit: redstonehelper comments on Minecraft Snapshot Week 22

Interesting features:
  • Made experience easier to acquire
    • You get experience from mining ores, unless when using Silk Touch enchanted gear. Fortune enchanted gear increases experience drop amount, via
    • You get experience from smelting items
    • You get experience from mining mob spawners
  • Made all mobs more challenging
  • Improved enchanting
    • You can enchant up to level 30 only
    • 15 bookshelves are enough to reach the new maximum level
    • Adjusted enchantments to fit the new maximum level
    • Made the third slot always show the highest possible enchant, via
    • Increased chances for multiple enchantments
  • Added preliminary Adventure mode
    • Only playable using cheats, via
    • You can't place or destroy blocks, via
    • You can't set things on fire or use buckets
    • You can breed animals, via

adventure mode has been mentioned, basically you can create a world, but the blocks are not destructable, so you can create custom maps, it's a great mode

A number of recent additions have been targetting the adventure designers. They are why Dinnerbone has added the tripwire.

Main features:
  • You can now use “/publish” to open your single-player game for LAN friends to join. This is still very much work in progress, so it lacks some necessary settings such as what game mode your friends will get, and if they should be able to use cheats or not. Also, the “/publish” command is temporary, you can’t even access it if you haven’t enabled cheats
  • The Ender Chest has been changed to have an inventory per player and not per world. Also, knocking down the chest will break it into 8 obsidian, unless you have Silk Touch.

Hmmm....I'm not sure what to think of the ender chest change. On the one hand, it will make it much more useful for safe travel and mining, but on the other, I was looking forward to using the chests as an inter-game mail system to trade with other folks currently online (I'm trying to limit my use of /tp by travelling by rail or nether, but spending all that time travelling to trade a few item would limit my trading if I stick to it).

I believe that Jens's issue is whether it changes the game in a positive or negative direction. I suspect that he designed it for single player but has rethought it for multiplayer.

The wierd thing is that all of the chests can be destroyed but their contents will still exist, so that when you make a new chest, it will allow you access to the original contents.
