Default An idea....

You know those epic videos you see where they do a time lapse of a server with some awesome big construction being built by a bunch of people....

We should do one of those....

Not only would it be fun but we could upload the vid online as a bit of a TOG promotion too....

We'd need to plan it out beforehand to have an idea of what we're going to build, and figure out how they do those time lapse shots and all that..... and we'd have to work out if we're going to add an additional server for a month to do it on, or take down one of our existing ones (since it should be on a new world so we can make the map available for people to download and have a look through).... but if enough people are interested, we can start working out the details...

Not sure.... I like ones I've seen that are large impressive cities with lots of cool buildings... I think we could do that, allowing different people to build different things that combine into the one big epic build...

I was thinking if we could get a suitable base map, a floating sky city or something like that would be cool.

But if we get different suggestions, we could run a poll and see which idea is most popular and do that.

I was planning on making this exact post, Obsi, but you beat me to it.

Yeah I've been watching the Fyre UK guys a lot. We'd have to rip out VoxelSniper to clear out the land though. If you look at a lot of their huge creations, ground level is almost at bedrock. They build high enough to stop the bedrock fog+particles from showing.
As for planning, Minecraft Structure Planner is a brilliant program, but might not be good enough for something on that scale.

I'll see if I can think of any good ideas and post them.

Well, I guess it depends on what we want to do.... if we want to just work with the existing terrain on a nice mountainy type map, we would just find a nice looking seed.... If we wanted to do something more extreme, then yes (or see if we can download a blank base world that is suitable)

Great idea! Please use a nice texture pack and shaders when you do the recording, the original texture is horrible

One of the features of the latest released (1.1) is the world option "flat", which does just that's. It creates a completely flat world, at about layer 5. No world editing needed or downloaded maps needed.

I think thats one of the main reasons do do something like that, curves make it a little more difficult to plan and more impressive when completed
