Default Fireside interview and Notch's MC secret

As was mentioned in Suggest questions for Notch , the creator of SpyParty, Chris Hecker, has had a fireside interview with Notch at GDC. According to Notch Teases a Secret in Minecraft - PC News at IGN, Notch said:
  • there is some undiscovered secret in Minecraft, but would not give any hints but they had just been talking about the use of the MC wiki to help crafting, so it might be an unknown recipe. Of course, he is known to troll.
  • he regretted adding half-blocks
  • he regretted not dealing with multiplayer earlier
  • he explained that all attempts at a female character were too sexist
I am trying to find a video or transcript of the interview.

It increases the amount of blocks in the world that the system has to be aware of, I think. To quote the escapist article:
Quote:
Notch concedes that the half-meter blocks were a mistake as essentially "You've doubled the number of blocks" and created a major headache for coding.

Shouldn't be a problem now though after they upgraded the amount of block types in the last release. However I can imagine the coding complications of adding a half type block into a world that only works on full blocks the first time. There will be problems all the way from pathing to lighting, and that's apart from the obvious problems of the physical changes.

Ah ok - thought he was referring to gameplay as opposed to coding

The biggest issue I would see to be that you can't put things on it, including players, but half of it is air, so light etc needs to go through it.

Ah so that's why he doesn't reply to my emails asking for vertical half blocks

Technically that shouldn't be a major problem, today you have essentially the same mechanic in fences and glass panes (they block your path, but doesn't have the width of an entire block).
