Building to scale

Some of us like replicating well known spacecraft from fiction. Thanks to a tweet from Notch, I found a webpage which puts their scales into perspective - Jeff Russell's STARSHIP DIMENSIONS

While we may not fit a 1:1 scale Death Star or ID4 Mother ship on our worlds, this may help anyone who wishes to scale one down a little/lot.

ps. It also includes Star Trek and Eve ships. A to-scale Babylon 5 would be ... challenging.

pps. Couldn't find a God Phoenix from Science Ninja Team Gatchaman though. :(

ppps. They do include some ground vehicles and creatures, e.g those in Starship Troopers

Very cool, would have been useful last weekend !

Could even be an idea for a short community timelapse build. The Enterprise took about 12 hours work for 1 person including digging resources.

Half a dozen players would do it in 2 hours.

The big eve ships are bigger than I thought. Very cool.

Loved seeing the tardis next to serenity. Nerd-gasm.

I like the Starship Trooper bugs from the Klendathu Hive compared to the bug from the Volkswagen Hive.

The Babylon 5 station would be very difficult, as gravity is rotated outwards, not like other shows, where they all use artificial gravity.

Tho, a Whitestar would look cool :)

Exactly. The whole cylindrical nature applies to the floors as well.

Or a shadow craft made out of obsidian.... annoying if you got any part wrong.

Pity we can't custom skin the armour like we do the bodies. Imagine using Vorlon armour over a Vorlon.... Until the armour is removed, you may never know what is within.

I had looked at that site a few years ago. Unfortunately I was unable to compare my previous experiences with the current version as the site went down. ;(

Notch /.ed it
