Default Minecraft XBOX 360 Edition is out

For those who want yet another version of Minecraft, you can now download one for your Xbox 360. It is gradually being unlocked across the world - Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition - Xbox.com . There is also a free trial version.

This version was produced by 4J Studios and is based on Minecraft Beta 1.6 with a few extra bits.

What it has that is different:
  • Any world can become a multiplayer for 8 people
  • Any xbox can play a world splitscreen with 4 players
  • Crafting is guided with menus
  • Beginners are offered a tutorial
  • Smooth frame-rate
What doesn't if have:
  • Custom skins
  • Custom texture packs
  • Creative mode
  • Jungles and cats
  • Unlimited worlds as they are limited to 1000x1000 blocks
  • Hunger
  • Mods
  • Server control
So if any of you decide to buy it, tell us what you think. It is planned to be improved over time, like the Mobile version.

Isn't 1000x1000 blocks REALLY small?
Does it have the nether? in that case it would be only 125x125 blocks.

No-one on Minecraft forum has reported actually been to the Nether, but it certainly existed for Beta 1.6 so I imagine it is there. Whether distances still have the 1:8 ratio I don't know. Remember the Nether was primarily designed for shortening the travel.

It depends on your sense of scale. It is quite small for a "world". On the other hand, I was looking on my private server for a 1000x1000 piece of land for a project, and I can't find anything nearly that large in one contiguous piece. (Note to self: don't try to paste a square kilometer of dirt blocks with WorldEdit anymore.)

I don't believe there is a nether in the XBox version.

Okay, people are reporting having gone into the Nether in this version. One claimed that the edge of the Nether has bedrock walls but I can't verify that. They also claim it is quite large. Some people say their game broke when they tried to enter the Nether, but the game seems a little fickle about what types of TV technology it likes, so that could be related.

If you like watching Seananners and Minecraftchick and others play, Xbox LIVE Arcade NEXT begins at 6pm PST (9pm EST). It will be happening LIVE on Twitch.tv. I believe that is in an hour or so.

Ah, ok, the number of sales I got is based on leaderboard participation, so might be off.. But it seems it sold over 400k copies in 24h.

Holy cow. Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition is the fastest selling game on XBLA. Ever.
And a warning if you are thinking of buying it. It seems that some features like the split screen for multiplayer will only work on HD tvs. Even Mojang weren't aware of this.

playxbla.com: Minecraft smashes every XBLA sales record we can find!

It will be interesting how much the sales of the PC version change over the next month (or the Mobile version).

I think a big chunk of the people buying MC for xbox already have MC on the computer. Like me for example i bought it so i could use a controller and do some multiplayer on it with my daughter when she is down for the summer. So i dont think you will see a big change in PC sales. Just my opinion of course
