Default Event ideas for July 4 and July 14

July 4 - US Independence Day
July 14 - Bastille Day in France

Just chucking something at you quickly. Both of these dates are pretty good ideas to run events like we did the Australia Day events in January (http://www.theoldergamers.com/forum/...th=1&year=2012).

Anyone got suggestions?

A construction checklist?

July 4
  • A sailing ship
  • a tepee
  • a head carved out of a natural hillside
  • a statue of a MC mob holding a torch
  • a Cadiallac?
  • ????
July 14
  • fifteen block high Eiffel tower?
  • grow a farm and make fourteen croissants (bread)
  • build a pyramid of glass blocks high enough to stand in
  • something Tour de France inspired?
  • ???

A combat scenario?

July 4
  • a ship to ship battle over piles of wheat (which have to be thrown into the water by the one side, or transported to a target location by another side)

July 14
  • capture the point in an urban environment? (ie. one side is defending and another is attacking with multiple key locations)

Any other suggestions? (and try not to be rude or racist)

Let me try to help you understand my countrymen:
It's not a proper 4th of July until things start exploding.

Perhaps then it should be ship-to-ship combat where the objectives are 1) get control of the tea... I mean wheat (or maybe cocoa beans) 2) explode the opposing ship to pieces

This could be set up with warps so that there is a protected block in the hulls that each side could warp to if they die. Alternatively, we could set a bed on the block.

So we should work on designing cannons that we can adjust the trajectory on?

Yeh on first read I thought, ooooh how to do fireworks?!

Perhaps if we end up running a PvP scenario like the kelly gang event oz day, instead of blowing up the flag/base we could set the "game-winner" to be launching TNT "fireworks" into the air? If we still have the map saved maybe we could modify the setup slightly..

I love the idea of a ship to ship battle, always wanted to do something like that. Could we purpose build these vessels out on the ocean near HG city if we do?
I like that the ships can be damaged too, we could possibly make the damage less permanent to try run it again. Also maybe a less destructive objective would be to scale the flag pole of the other ship and remove/replace the flag with your own colours?

We can "freeze" all other gameplay on Survival whilst the event is on, and revert back to a saved copy of the world before the event when finished (or to rerun it). This would also allow the use of fire charges instead of tnt.

People will need to outline how they would like to run scenarios so we can work out how best to design any terrain/buildings/ships. If we can work out how to run Independence Day, then on the weekend you can allocate a section of Frontier and work on the construction side (ie. not the Mythbuster-like experiments with cannons or fire charges) . I won't be available during the days so I would like a volunteer to take charge of the management (and possibly running the event at a convenient time for the Americans but also others so we get the numbers).

Yes, we still have the Kelly world on our machine.

How about Bastille Day? Anyone want to parlez Francais and storm the castle/jail/whatever. Bastille Day is a Saturday.

And any ideas for the creative side of things on both days? For Australia Day we ran the creative tasks all day as a challenge (with optional point-scoring).

Okay, if anyone wants to set up two opposing sailing ships on Frontier over the weekend they can. If Henri approves them being near the Hunger City, they can be there (site 1). Otherwise, I recommend they go in the middle of the ocean to the west of the Wild West (site 2). There is a small set of islands there that can be used for any land component of events (though probably not big enough to be Tortuga).

As to the design of the ships, that is your choice, but I would recommend the following:
  • the ships are side on to each other
  • lots of wood
  • lots of cloth sail
  • limit the number of tnt cannons to about 3
  • make the ships near each other.... say 20-50 blocks away from each other (so standard bows and tnt cannons will easily reach)
  • position at most one dispenser for fire charges
  • have ladders at a couple of positions so players can climb on board from the water
  • have at least two masts with ladders so they can be archer high points
  • be 10-20 blocks from the shore so the ammo can be reached
  • have a place to store the "treasure" on each ship, perhaps behind a iron door in a stone room so tnt is ideal to blast into it
  • have a hull with one or two levels, with multiple entrances
  • allow easy maneouverability amongst the ship so no obstacle courses
My idea is that the tnt (and later fire charges) will be on shore. Players will have arrows and swords only. So players will have to swim ashore, get tnt and back to their ship. The objectives would be
  1. kill all of the opposing side
  2. destroy their ship
  3. steal their treasure
Any alternate ideas are welcome.

I like site 2

TNT and fire near the low-rent wooden housing in the city is scary... haha.

The direct bottom of the map is quite good too. I have spent a bit of time there and was going to run an extreme survival challenge at the spot fairly soon.

I saw this. Not sure we could make the contest deadline (if we were to build one) but I am going to watch the contest.
