Default Command blocks on Adventure mode

Jeb is considering the future of the Adventure mode. He has considered the possibility of a programmable block that can be placed by admins and activated under certain circumstances (https://twitter.com/jeb_/status/228829830731427840)

Quote:
So this block http://i.imgur.com/WHpGr.png will be able to run cmds on redstone signals. With proper commands, many things can be scripted

For example, "xp 500 @player" would give the (single-)player 500 enchantment points

Hope this explains it better: The block's command is "give @p 20 7" and gives this: http://i.imgur.com/8xVWp.png
It is early days and this seems to be not craftable so normal players couldn't create it.

The command blocks are still being worked on. Some mod developers have started using them to great effect, especially for their teleportation abilities (see the Youtube vid below)

The latest news from Mojang is that they now can add further conditional arguments to variables. The full details are given in https://gist.github.com/3736487

Will add video later... having connection issues

I saw the video with the Portal world a user made; it was awesome. I think this is going to change the game a lot. If they implement something like JavaScrip, or even just a few Java libraries, users will be able to create incredible worlds. I know this is down the road a bit, if it ever comes, but with the programmable blocks, it should be a natural next step.

At the moment it is just for certain in-game commands, but they are being added to. Things like teleporting characters, giving them items, clearing their inventories, etc are all great as they can help run things like the Minecraft map set up to run TF2.

Another SethBling video to show what is possible with commandblocks - moving players into suspended animation in a stasis field.
