MC1.4 "Pretty Scary" Update coming, but we won't update yet
 

A reminder to everyone that the 1.4 Pretty Scary update is coming today. However, as per usual, we won't be updating the servers quite yet. We have to wait for Bukkit and some of its plugins to update themselves and be tested by the community.

So make sure you have a copy of Minecraft 1.3.2 on hand, just in case you or a family member updates to 1.4. There are various ways this can be easily managed. See Minecrafting 101 - Tips for running 2 versions of Minecraft.

You will be advised in the coming weeks when our servers will be updated to 1.4. It tends to be a wait of 2 weeks to a month.

The update has arrived. It is full of pretty things and scary things.

Oh, a few things we might want to consider for when we do update the servers. Slimes and witches may spawn in swamps - any swamps. Also, minecarts and mobs will be able to go through portals to the Nether. This might mean that you occasionally get unwelcome visitors into your homes on Frontier. Also, mob farms will no longer be as effective but you can xp in more ways.

The Admin team will deliberate things like whether we need to extend the world borders yet and whether the division needs any rules for new things like command blocks (which only the admin team will be able to spawn), other than "don't be stupid".

Have had this happening recently now on frontier. Been working on a new area and made some new portals. Have had several pigmen show up in my new areas. though this new version may make it more often.

How do you get the drop from Wither?
I upgraded this morning to mess around with the beacons, and they are pretty cool. I cant wait to see all the lights going up in the air.

If you are going to expand the server size, I am all for that. I have not been to 1/4 of the places on the server, but more space is might be a good idea. Looking at the map, the new players have limited spaces to start building.

You create it then kill it, which I understand is rather hard to do without having the neighbourhood (and yourself) destroyed.

And don't forget that the beacons are actually buff stations to give all within their range buff powers for a limited time.

That is certainly one of the factors that we will discuss.

Any ETA on an update? I assume we're waiting for Bukkit still.

Yes waiting a Craftbukkit recommended build and then for one of our Admins to get some time to upgrade and test.
