Are client side textures allowed ...

... on frontier? Do you have any to recommend?

As in texture packs? - They are allowed yes, as they just change the look of the game, not changing gameplay (except xray texture packs, which are considered cheating).

It's really down to personal preference, and what sort of look you're after - there are very "modern" looking packs, very cartoony ones, medieval ones......

I personally always use the default one. I've recently tried out the faithful pack and I quite liked it. If you like steampunk, there's the "Glimmar's" pack which is awesome.

Someone posted about tex packs a few weeks ago, which has a couple of links to try:

The only thing to remember is that you need to make sure whichever pack you use is updated for whatever minecraft version you have - or else you won't see some of the newer blocks (because they won't have existed when the texture pack maker made their pack).

Players may use texture packs to enhance the visual look of the game, but any mod or hack that changes the gameplay must be approved for use by the Admins before it is allowed to be used.
So yes, texture packs are allowed on Frontier.

Yes they are allowed. I like the steampunk one that Bazz recommended for his old creative city

Edit: Wow 3 simultaneous replies!! And yeah as Obsi said the pack I was trying to mention was "Gimmars"

Sorry Sor - I didn't read that paragraph properly. All I saw was

Currently only these client mods are allowed to be used on our servers:

Optifine
Water Shader Mod
Zan Minimap (no longer maintained)
Rei's Minimap
Improved Chat
What's My Light Level
and thought I'd better check.

My son use to use a 64 bit (?) texture pack which was like vanilla but less pixelated. I'm thinking of tracking that one down and making sure it is 1.3.2 compatible. I'll check out those other suggestions as well. I'm not sure what is involved with installing textures - especially for older versions of MC. My son is mad with these things so I'm sure I only have to hint at the idea and he'll have 20 packs installed from manga to science to heavens-knows-what!

Cheers.

All you need to do, is download the texturepack file and place it (still in it's zip file) into your "texturepacks" folder in your minecraft folder. (By default (in win7) it's username/appdata/roaming/.minecraft/texturepacks)

Then when Minecraft is loaded, there is a "texture packs" button on the front page, click that and it will show all the texture packs in that folder. Just select the one you want to try, wait a few seconds for it to load - then get into the game and see how it looks.

I like PureDBCraft (otherwise known as Sphax in certain forums.)

It is almost (so very almost) in complete support of FTB too (with the additional FTB addon to the texture pack.) I still don't know why they missed re-doing all the red rock textures when other Extrabiomes stuff was done. I most love the look of soul sand in it, and least like birch trees.

Glimmers steampunk one somehow misses the mark for me slightly. I think it's just for the early parts of the game I don't like it as much.

oh but when I sugested it to OJ and put a vid up showing it was nothing said then :bigsad: :p

dont know how to link threads but its in Texture packs suggestions (1.3.2)

Obsi 22nd January 2013 05:33 PM

Probably because I don't generally look at texture packs because I've yet to find one I actually like enough to use (there's always something in them I love, and somethings I hate)..... so I wouldn't have looked at links or videos, because I'm not generally interested in them. But since OJ hadn't linked to it, I went to find the link to make it easier for others, and when I looked at it, I saw it was pretty cool.
