Default Minecraft Performance Questions

Ohais, some questions that have been bugging me ever since I started playing MC.

1) Is there a way to boost my FPS while playing? I find some days are better than others where I may get 60-80 FPS and other times I may get 30-40. I am not considering server challenges, only client side.

2) Does the java memory allocation actually help? Is more better or is there a "sweet spot"?

3) I have a 64bit OS and have both the 32bit and 64bit java installs. What else can I do to help ensure smooth frames/game play?

That answer brings up a question for me. How do I set up FTB to use one of the approved client mods like Optifine.

with optifine you just put it in the inst mods folder, however be aware it's hiot and miss, some people swear by it others loath it and causes crashes.

Optifine is very sensitive to video card choice. The main problems seem to be on NVidia cards.

Well, I'll start with boosting the Java memory, and if it still needs more I'll try Optifine again. I had it working once, many revs ago, and it seemed to do ok.

Minecraft itself has undergone many changes in the last 6 months. Mojang are making Optifine less relevant, since they can't add its code to Minecraft (developer wouldn't let them).

But yes, more RAM for Java is better.
