Default Java 7, Windows 7 and IP

Hi,
some of you (or all of you) may know this, but just in case:

JRE 7.X and Windows 7 have an issue, especially on a wireless connection that causes lots of client lag (your hard disk just thrashes bringing the machine to a halt). The issue is caused by JRE attempting to use the IPv6 protocol stack even if you have an IPv4 connection.

There is supposedly an option to force Java to use the IPv4 stack, but it didn't work for me using Mindcrack. The other option is just to disable the IPv6 protocol if you do not have an IPv6 connection (this works nicely for me while Minecrafting - though I have to revert for work).

Cheith.

I have not had this problem myself, but I have to ask, adding "-Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true" to the Additional Java Parameters box under advanced options doesn't work?

It made no difference for me. Removing the stack from the wireless connection was the only thing that worked.

Ugh. That's no good. I'll add it to my list of "Reasons to not use Java in a production environment".

You mean there are people using ipv6???? Wow. Must be an Australian thing or something, cause nobody I have ever heard from in the US uses it.

people are using IPv6, just not many at all. Plenty of stuff in the US happening too, but still tiny really.

This sounds like the cause of my system performance issue! Thanks!

The issue showed up when I upgraded to Java 7, which fixed my constant crashes but caused excessive disk accesses.

I'll give it a try (removing the stack) before the next time I manage to play.
