Default HD texture packs don't work :( [fixed]

So after being pointed to the John Smith HD texture pack, I put the 1.4.7 zip into my 1.4.7 texture folder, loaded up the game and everything is fantastic!!

Except the fire and water. And brick. And netherack.

No fear, run MCPATCHER for 1.4.7 - yay! Except that doesn't work.

When MCPatcher runs, it analysis my jar and all those mods that are on the first tab are all greyed out - meaning the patch button at the bottom doesn't actually install anything.

MCPatcher won't work so my John Smith textures won't fix.

Anyone seen this problem with MCPatcher before?

Whenever frontier gets patched to 1.5, I'm guessing all these texture packs become broken anyway - yes?

The nature of texture packs slightly changes in 1.5, so if you update, you may find old texture packs don't work. (but don't hold me to that). Basically, Mojang changed from one file to a separate files per item. This way, if a texture pack is missing a texture for an item, it can fall back to the default.
