Default Mojang Releases Scrolls

BBC News - Minecraft creators release beta of Scrolls game

Scrolls is now in open beta and available for purchase. It is a long awaited release from Mojang, and is brilliant (so I am told)

if you purchase Scrolls you need to "migrate" your account and select a scrolls username, it all seems to work fine without any issues for our servers.

Quote:
Scrolls is officially in Open Beta! That means you can buy it, play it, and become the ultimate Scrolls legend of all time! No more resets! Nurture your deck and rank up without fear!
We’re still going to be regularly updating Scrolls; I’ll be posting more details about planned additions soon. Keep checking Scrolls.com, and follow the team on twitter, for shorter, snappier info.
Scrolls costs 13/€15/$20, depending on your region. I’ve written various posts over the last week which discuss the beta in more detail. Click the following links for the info:
What do you get if you buy into Beta?
How does the economy work? Do I need to spend extra cash after purchasing? (No)
How does the deck building/trading system work?
See you online people! Waaaa excite!

Except that someone else can play the zombies. It reminds me a lot of Hero Academy, with the card aspect thrown in. It would certainly make a great mobile game. Fingers crossed for that in the future

to me it was very much like the magic the gathering game. but with little figures, alot more challenging than I thought tbh.

very much like MTG, but, there have been quite a few attempts to make a board game style game based on cards.

Guardians of Graxia comes to mind,
or in the physical world something like dreamblade (not so much cards, but collectable minatures)

First impressions after playing the tutorial only, I think the balance of the board/location vs the importance of the actual cards is fairly close to right. Shouldn't result in overly long boring games.

Time will tell how they balance more cards, that's the tricky bit.

I see that this uses the Unity engine, and that the engine supports multiple programming languages..... one of which is Javascript. PLEASE tell me that Mojang did NOT use javascript? Anyone that has this know if it's requiring anything java related?

Scrolls has had more Mojang staff working on it than Minecraft ever did, including 3+ artists. I doubt that Javascript is used. Also, since they are not expecting fans to make mods (since it is a competitive game), it won't be in Java. It is a standalone game in Unity that I suspect is mainly in C#.
