Max seems to have proposed a nice compromise. Public with a private subforum.

Unfortunately any decision is going to affect someone - if it's public then the people wanting it private won't be happy, and if it's private then some people won't be able to see it.

I do think though that private would be better - the only reason against it is the fact a couple of players couldn't access it

Repost, but I thought a private forum with a public subforum? It makes more sense to me; the majority of us being Toggers.

Regardless, I think we need to hold a vote to determine what the majority actually wants

Being one of the players that will be locked out if its private,

i'm wondering what the main selling points on going private are?

I can't think of any that overshadow locking out a few of us players

I feel a private forum is only necessary if we are talking about preventing unknown/undesirable elements connecting to the server.

But that can be avoided by removing all reference to the server address and use of a whitelist (as already suggested). With this in mind I see no real benefit to a private forum if it means preventing several prominent players from participating.
