We have already argued about this. If we have ten thousand different types of warps, it will become unmanageable and unusable.

Presently:
* NAME.claim is added to the map
* warps listed on the warps thread (http://www.theoldergamers.com/forum/...544-warps.html) are added
* All other warps are not added to the map

Nice and simple

It is near impossible to keep Works-in-Progress secret regardless of whether they have a warp or not. The only way to hide them is to prevent people walking into them without mining.

I have plans in progress in my mountain which I want to hide until finished. Consequently, I don't make a warp there. Instead, I make a warp to paths and holes that will take me there, and make them hard to find, or hide them behind stones. Secret warp problem and secret WIP problem solved without changing anything.

I too would like some in-game way to access lists of warps, so I would like /listwarps to stay in some form.

/tp has to stay. There is a lot of resource sharing and it will be impossible if people can't /tp to each other to give away their spare stacks of glass/cobblestones/water etc.

I don't have a problem with the updates your proposing, the only thing with /listwarps is the formatting of the listing.

Anyone who looks at the warps I have created know instantly that they are mine, as I do <playername>.<destination> I think I saw Obsi doing the same too.

Whats the program used for the mod that allows the /listwarps and so forth? I'm just curious, could be a simple job to modify it if its a script file, but if its a exec file, it cold be a problem..

if its a exec file, under Linux doing `strings <filename>` sometimes turns up some "undocumented" options I have found in the past

yes, that's the usual way we've all been creating our warps...

As I apparently haven't been clear enough.

I am FOR:
All warps to be listed
/tp to remain

You might have argued about this, I haven't. Why would there be ten thousand different kinds of warps?

BTW: /tp has nothing to do with this - this thread is about warps isn't it?

Isn't opt-in not opt-out simpler?

With Opt-in people can add whatever warps they want. The admin overhead is the same, as you could do it through a similar process like public.TITLE.

Opt-in is always a better solution than opt-out.

I tried to find the original discussion for you, but can't .... I need a warp to it. However, in it some were suggesting that we have some system like:
private.NAME.location
public.NAME.location
community.location
claim.NAME
etc

Yes, but someone early on had expressed an opinion about /tp as well.

We presently have an opt-in system. If you want your warp to be publicly advertised, you mention it on the warps thread, Obsi will kindly add it to the thread's list and it will be extracted and used on the map. If you don't want a warp advertised, then don't put it on the thread. NAME.claim is the only warp I believe that is automatically extracted from the file of warps.

I believe that Exe is suggesting that a lot of people aren't including warps that would be helpful to others. I know I haven't included at least 4 or 5 warps from my explorations because they are temporary. However, they may end up being helpful to others if they appeared on the map. Therefore, Exe's idea has advantages.

Mind you it also has disadvantages. I also have various warps around my mountain that are pretty uninteresting, but that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Mighty, just for you, I can do a find replace and rename all your warps to secret.mb.warpname OK? its easy enough to do in vim or sed its just a textfile after all.

It's an issue that's needed a definite decision, and personally I'm happy enough with this proposed approach. Opt-in / Opt-out both have advantages and disadvantages, which will appeal / not appeal to each individual.

I'd recommend extending until next Monday the time to allow players to rename their secret warps, as not everyone is as active during the week.

/listwarp is essentially useless unless you've forgotten a warp you've only recently created. Happy enough to remove it, and occasionally post the current list (excluding "secret.xxx" ones) on the public forum so that people can check and clean up any old outdated ones they have.

In regards to the /tp linkage, I personally think it's usefulness outweighs other considerations, however a bit of courtesy in not /tp'ing to someone unannounced or where they aren't obviously (from in-game/voice chat) in a non-private place mitigates some objections.
