Ahead of releasing 1.6, Notch has released a list of new features and bug fixes that he will implement. It is a long list so I won't copy it here. Go to The changelist for 1.6 : The Word of Notch .

However, the things that may interest people are that we will get the Nether, hatches, craftable maps, long grass and more music in jukeboxes.

Ohh!
* Fixed buttons and levers too close to the player being impossible to use - yay!
* Fixed fences and stairs sometimes becoming invisible - Good!
* Fixed rain falling through liquids - no more underwater rain lol
* Fixed fences and signs preventing grass from growing - excellent! no more waiting for the grass to grow before you can put one down!

Ohh
* Fixed fishing rods being stackable - no more fixing a broken rod
* Fixed ice so it regenerates regardless of whether it’s snowing or not - That may put an end to the water hazards in golf....

Yep.... though you can do it if you want Exe

As I have said before, we are going to have to have a good look at what 1.6 does and how it works before we implement any version of it (Bukkit or otherwise). The Nether world may introduce many problems that might force new rules or server settings. However, until it is released, we don't know enough information to really start talking.

That said, Bukkit has been coded for using multiple worlds for the one server for a while now. Most mods have been adjusted to allow for this, e.g. the command permissions are set per world. The issue may just be Bukkit adjusting itself so that it does the same thing with the new code, but even that may take a while. Then the mods need to make sure that they still work.

We will just have to wait and see.
